I am a 29-year-old mother to three young boys. After a nearly ten year hiatus, I returned to college in January 2019 to pursue teaching. I will graduate on May 14, 2021 with a BA in English, Cum Laude. I have also accepted an offer with the Teach for America Corps and will teach Elementary Education at a Title 1 school in the fall.

Courtney’s Advice: Do it! When I think back to two years ago, the odds were against me. I was a mother to two young boys, I was working full-time, and I had no idea what I wanted to do professionally. I often asked myself – when would I have the time to study? How would I work, be a mother, and go to school at the same time? I thought it was nearly impossible. Then, I realized as a first-generation college student, I wanted to change the trajectory of my family’s lives. Not only would I be learning and working toward my desired career, but I would also be setting an example for my children. Ultimately, I knew I was capable of successfully completing anything I put my mind to – and so are YOU. If I can do it, you can too.
