WINGS Scholarship
Women Initiating and Nurturing Growth through Scholarships, or WINGS, is a program sponsored by Women Executives for Community Service (WECS). The program supports students attending Charlotte area universities with preference given to female students. Please visit the WINGS website at www.wecharlotte.org for details of eligibility criteria and expectations of WINGS scholars.
WINGS Scholars awards are prorated per hours taken. A full-time student may be awarded $5,000 for the academic year. The scholarship may be renewed if the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements. Recipients of the WINGS Scholarship also receive something potentially even more valuable! A seasoned, female executive will be paired with each WINGS Scholar to provide one-to-one mentoring and professional guidance. Each mentor is a member of Women Executives (WE), and gives their own experience, perspectives, counsel, networks, and personal support—what they give is themselves. Questions should be directed to the University Scholarship Office (704-687-5871).
ANSWER Scholarship
ANSWER Scholarship, Inc. provides college scholarships, mentoring and professional development to moms in Mecklenburg and 11 surrounding counties in the Carolinas. The organization supports mothers of school-age children to achieve a college education and inspires them to be role models of academic, personal, and professional success for their children. ANSWER has awarded more than $718,000 in scholarships to 125 moms since its founding. ANSWER’s graduation rate is typically 80% or more, which far exceeds the national graduation rate for non-traditional students.
Scholar success is top priority for ANSWER. In addition to providing a scholarship towards tuition, ANSWER matches scholars with mentors, produces professional and personal workshops on career and other topics, and partners with other community organizations in the Charlotte area for additional supportive services.
Scholarships are per year. Typically, the awards range from $2,750 per year for a two-year associate degree to $5,500 per year for a four-year bachelor’s degree.
